ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
Results are already adding up. Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved enough energy in 2006 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 25 million cars - all while saving $14 billion on their utility bills. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted into law in 1991. ADA was a broad-sweeping piece of legislation's that mandated many changes in the design and layout of publicly accessible areas to accommodate disabled persons. ADA does not therefore focus exclusively on lighting, but it does have a direct effect on the design of lighting relative to the amount of projection allowable for wall sconces and lanterns, and relative to the amount of clearance for hanging lights and lanterns.
